Book Review: Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Hi my fellow book lovers!

I finally got around to reading Six of Crows and I....have mixed feelings. I know that a lot of people loved it, and there were definitely aspects of it that I enjoyed, but I think this was definitely a over hyped book.

What I liked? : What I loved the most about this book was the characters, the plot for me was dry and pointless but the characters kept me going! They are so awesome, and are literal squad goals.

What I did not like?: The worst feeling is reading a book and having no idea whats going on. This book was all over the place, it didn't - in my opinion, have a proper purpose. The plot was so boring - thank God for those characters, I wont be reading another one of her books in the near future.

I also didn't like the inconsistency towards the end of the book. She presents Inej - one of the main female characters, as a person who relies on herself and is strong both mentally and physically. Then she presents Kaz - the main character and her love interest, as equally strong and very aware that inej is this amazing person that doesn't need him to thrive....then the book goes back on that and he claims her as 'his woman' and suddenly he has feelings...there wasn't a build up.

The relationship between Kaz and Inej feels like it should remain platonic, and I think Leigh added romantic elements because they were the only unpaired couple left. Let them remain bloody unpaired!!

I therefore gave this book a rating of...

3 stars out of 5

Maybe fantasy isn't for me.

My First YALC!

Hello my fellow book lovers!

A few months ago, I posted my goals for 2016 and on that list was to attend YALC.
After posting it I felt slightly bad, because I made a promise to myself that could have easily not happened, and I am a perfectionist so it would have  disappointed me for a long time.

Since I am still 17, there are people that govern where I go still therefore it was really lucky that i was able to go. I also had university events on the weekend of YALC so it was looking even more unlikely.

BUT I WENT, AND IT WAS AWESOME.

Let's discuss what I got there!

POSTERS AND POST CARDS

There were so many freebies at YALC, it was crazy. Here are all of the posters and post cards I managed to grab (in the literal sense) from the different stands. I am sure there are more but i can't find them in my many tote bags.

BOOK PREVIEWS

I am going to go into a bit of detail here because the authors are amazing and I want everyone to check these books out.

1. The Raging Light by Estelle Laure

This book is one I don't know much about..but it looks so interesting.

 2. Heart of Granite by James Barclay

This is another one that I don't know much about...but it looks so cool.

3. Holding up the universe by Jennifer Niven

This just seems like a cute book, and I hear a lot of good things about the author!

 4. Half Bad by Sally Green

I have heard so much about this author, and fantasy is a genre I am trying to get into so let's see if this preview intrigues me.

5. Purge by Kat Ellis

This is another one I don't know anything about...but the title is Purge. It has to be awesome.

6. Ink by Alice Broadway

This book...sounds sickly but awesome. It is about a world where your life gets tattoo'ed onto your skin as you life and grow old. Here's the sick part. When you die, your skin is carved off and made into a book. so awesome.

7. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

This is a book by the author of Six of Crows - which i am currently reading. I guess if I enjoy six of crows I will enjoy this....

8. The Graces by Laure Eve

To be honest, I just really love the cover. I am not sure what this is about!! But I am excited to find out :-))

9. The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson

This book is apparently about a boy who suffers from agoraphobia and witnesses a crime from his bedroom window. I am not positive on this description...it's what the woman told me at YALC. But if that is the description it sounds cool, and I would love to read it.

BOOKS AND OTHER THINGS

Birdy by Jess Vallance
This is one of the books I bought (despite the book ban #thestruggle) and it's about a girl who has trouble making friends, and meets the new girl at school and psychological stuff ensues.

Highly Illogical Behaviour by John Corey Whaley
The reason I bought this is because John is one of my favourite authors, so why not!

This book I don't know the name of....
This book is by an Italian author who bends the boundaries in Itallian literature and has many banned books in Italy because of this. The reason her books were banned was because of 'gay content'. She feels that she now can be given her voice back now that she has come to the UK, which is super awesome.

Oh! and I met Holly Bourne again!!!

PICS OF THE DAY

So that was my day at YALC! I loved it so much and I can't wait to go again next year!
